A propósito de Miami Vice e porque já estamos em silly season (o que permite certos devaneios), deixo aqui um pormenor que sempre me intrigou.

Porque motivo o cabelo do Jamie Foxx parece que foi desenhado... e com régua?

Manhã cedo em plena 5th Avenue...

Na rua deserta aparece um carro que pára mesmo em frente à Tiffany's. Uma figura esguia sai do carro e toma o pequeno-almoço junto à montra da famosa joalharia. É um croissant e um café.

Audrey tem o cabelo preso num delicado equilíbrio e uns óculos escuros (quase) demasiado grandes para a sua cara. Tem ainda um vestido preto, comprido e justo, que lhe torna os passos pequenos.

Um vestido, desenhado por Hubert de Givenchy, que vai a leilão a 5 de Dezembro, na casa Christie's, em Londres. A licitação começa em 70 mil libras e o dinheiro conseguido vai ser utilizado em causas humanitárias na Índia, através do grupo City of Joy Aid.

Um sorriso

O autocarro demorava a arrancar.

Distraída no sonhar acordada, olhava pela janela.

Encostada a uma parede estava uma sem-abrigo. Tinha ao seu lado um cão e no colo três gatinhos.

Concentrava a atenção no carinho que lhes dava. Ao mesmo tempo pensava que estas pessoas que mal têm para comer, demonstram, muitas vezes, mais amor para com os animais do que aqueles que têm de tudo. Como se acreditassem mais nesta retribuição.

De repente, a senhora sorriu aos olhos que a observavam. Um sorriso devolvido.

Nesse instante, o sinal ficou verde.

The Box

Ainda Southland Tales não chegou cá e Richard Kelly já está a anunciar um novo projecto. As primeiras notícias sobre o novo filme apresentavam Richard Kelly como o argumentista e Eli Roth na realização. No entanto, parece que Eli Roth prefere agora voltar ao universo macabro de Hostel e deixar este projecto para trás.

O novo filme vai chamar-se The Box e a história foi divulgada pelo próprio Richard Kelly, na San Diego Comic Com. Tudo começa quando um casal com dificuldades financeiras encontra uma pequena caixa de madeira à frente da porta de casa. Junto à caixa está um papel com algumas informações - se carregarem no botão ficam milionários... mas o seu acto terá consequências.

"Cabin Fever" director Eli Roth said he’s working on a film with you called "The Box". Is it based on a Richard Matheson short story?

It is based on a very obscure Richard Matheson story that was never published but was ultimately made into a "Twilight Zone" episode. In the early 80’s when a new version of "The Twilight Zone" aired on CBS, the producers went back to a lot of the original writers like Matheson, Arthur C. Clarke [and] a lot of other big writers. Even Harlan Ellison, I think, wrote an episode. It was a really interesting kind of revival of the show, with new material. I optioned one of the episodes that Matheson wrote. The episode was called "Button, Button" and the screenplay that I’m working on with Eli, we’ve retitled it "The Box". It’s basically a story that I’ve been obsessed with since I saw it when I was probably 11 years old or something.

Why are you obsessed with the story?

It’s one of those moments growing up when you’re watching television whether it’s "V: The Final Battle" or "Twin Peaks" or something, that it just hits you and then sticks with you.
"The Twilight Zone" always stuck with me. It was particularly the 80’s revival of "The Twilight Zone" that made me discover that show and then go back and see all the original Serling material from the 50’s. It was just this one episode – along with a few others – that hit me pretty hard and inspired me. I think this is the one that I’ve always wanted to go back to and try to expand into a feature film.

How faithful will you stay to Matheson’s work?

It’s taking the root inspiration of the story and expanding it into a much more elaborate narrative. Matheson is one of my favorite writers and I’m grateful to be able to have access to his source material.

Can you sum up the story?

Eli would probably kill me! It involves a box with a button on it, and bad things can happen when that button is pushed.

Is it a small box?

A very small one.
